PRO GROUP INC. HATCHES PLAN TO SAVE RESIDENT GEESE

Denver, Colorado (May 5, 2009) - When a mother goose builds (and fills) a nest on their patio, marketing executives spring to action.

The executives at PRO Group, Inc. are accustomed to providing marketing strategies for their clients. But recently they stumbled onto a situation that’s gone a-fowl.

A mother goose has taken up residence in a planter on the patio of PRO Group’s fifth-floor office. Three weeks ago she laid eggs in that planter, and has since become a fixture on the patio. According to the Department of Wildlife (DOW), the bird is protected and cannot be moved or touched during this incubation period but as the hatching date approaches, building dwellers are standing by.

“After the goslings come to life, they will need to be moved to a safer location with food and water or will most certainly die,” says Merchandise Manager Joe Lentz, who’s remaining abreast of the situation.  “The DOW states it will then be okay to move them then.”

It’s not just okay, in fact, it’s absolutely necessary. In their first few days, the goslings cannot fly or feed themselves, and the mother will go through a molting stage in which she cannot fly, either. The patio overlooks a cement parking lot, which could prove deadly to the new family.

A tenant on the sixth floor has volunteered to transfer the goslings to a nearby park, where they’ll find a safer environment brimming with food and water.

“This might be a dangerous undertaking, as the mother goose will attempt to attack this person during the transition,” says Lentz.

But it’s a risk he’s willing to undertake. When it comes to the goslings, the issue of safety is, indeed, for the birds.
